Gastrointestinal Lavage

 

Format:

Each KleanLyte™ kit contains 2 x 177 mL bottles and a mixing container.

 

Ingredients:

Medicinal Ingredients: Amounts of sulfate salts per bottle: Sodium sulfate (17.5 g), potassium sulfate (3.13 g), magnesium sulfate (1.6 g).

Non-medicinal Ingredients: In alphabetical order: Citric acid, lemon flavour, malic acid, purified water, sodium benzoate, sucralose.

 

Indication:

For use in cleansing of the colon as a preparation for colonoscopy in adults.

 

Directions for Use:

KleanLyte™ must be diluted with water, per the instructions that follow. Do not ingest undiluted solution.

KleanLyte™ should be taken in a split-dose (two-day) oral regimen.

 

The total volume of liquid required for colon cleansing is approximately 2.8 L taken orally prior to the colonoscopy in the following way:

Day prior to colonoscopy: Take a light breakfast and only drink clear liquids. Avoid red and purple liquids, milk, and alcoholic beverages.

Early in the evening prior to colonoscopy: Follow steps1–3 below, using one bottle of KleanLyte™.

Day of colonoscopy: Drink only clear liquids until after the colonoscopy. Avoid red and purple liquids, milk, and alcoholic beverages.

The morning of colonoscopy (10–12 hours after the evening dose or as directed by your healthcare professional): Repeat steps1–3 below, using the remaining bottle of KleanLyte™. Complete the full dose and the required water at least one hour prior to colonoscopy.

 

Step 1: Pour the contents of one bottle into the mixing container provided.

 

Step 2: Fill the container with water to the fill line (473 mL or 16 oz) and drink the entire amount.

 

Step 3: Drink two additional containers filled to the fill line with water over the next hour.

 

Ensure that you hydrate adequately before, during, and after taking this product.

 

In case of overdose, call a poison control centre or get medical help right away.

 

Warnings/Precautions:

 

For professional use only.

This product may cause ulcers of the bowel or bowel problems. Do not take other laxatives while taking this product.

Do not drink this product before first mixing with water. Drinking undiluted solution may increase the risk of nausea, vomiting, and dehydration. It is important to drink the additional recommended amount of water to prevent dehydration.

This product and other osmotic bowel preparations can cause side effects including serious loss of body fluid (dehydration) and changes in salts (electrolytes) in your blood. These changes can cause abnormal heartbeats, seizures (even if you have never had a seizure), and kidney problems.

Your chance of having dehydration and changes in body salt with this product are higher if you have heart or kidney problems, or if you take water pills (diuretics) or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

 

Storage:

Store unopened bottles at room temperature 15 °C–30 °C. Do not use if inner seal of bottle is broken or missing. Keep out of sight and reach of children.
